Amidst the declining number of Covid cases, the schools in Jammu and Kashmir are likely to reopen soon. While many states have already started the offline classes, J&K will also join the race in this month itself.
As per the sources, the schools in the state are likely to be allowed to resume offline classes from February 21. Only fully-vaccinated students will be permitted to attend the classes physically.
LG Manoj Sinha in a meeting on Friday evening said, “Reviewed Covid-19 situation in J&K UT. The pandemic situation has improved and we can gradually move ahead for reopening of schools and holding offline classes while ensuring complete adherence to SoPs”.
He added “District administration to ensure enabling environment for schools to move towards reopening, cleaning & sanitation, transportation, flexible & staggered timings for students with the help of school education authorities”.
However, the schools will restart functioning in a staggered manner.
Taking the appropriate precautions, students for Classes 10th and 12th will be the first ones to be allowed. The second phase would allow students from eighth, ninth and eleventh to resume physical classes. The third and final phase would include reopening of schools in full capacity for all classes.
It has been learnt that the State School Education Department has sent a proposal for resuming offline classes.
The Disaster Management Department, after reviewing the proposal will give a final go-ahead for schools to resume. Covid precautions will be strictly asked to follow in schools which would include wearing masks and maintaining proper social distance.
Keeping in view the final exams of the students in upcoming months, both school authorities and parents are demanding the reopening of schools.
The schools underwent lockdown in the month of January after the rise of pandemic cases nation-wide. It was in the month of September last year that the classes had resumed for the students of 10th and 12th standard after remaining shut for more than a year.
Schools in Punjab, Delhi and Haryana have already become functional in offline mode keeping in view the off-set of the virus. Administration has already ordered that vaccination of student will be given priority.
