Students agitate for conducting online exams in Jammu University

Students of Jammu University have started agitating over their demand for conducting online examination as soon as the University of Jammu opens. The student unions are also ready to jump into the matter. Students in colleges have also started to raise their demands to conduct online examinations. The Jammu University has issued examination date sheet of many courses with their intention to take off-line examinations.

The students of the Law School of Jammu University sat on Dharna outside the VC chamber last Monday afternoon regarding their demands of online examinations. The students sat on Dharna all night. VC of Jammu University, Manoj Dhar met the students late in the night. He said that students will be given concession in the curriculum. Exam syllabus will include only forty per cent of the total curriculum.

The students rejected the VC’s offer saying that when their study was online, then why are their examinations are being taken offline. They are consistently demanding that their examinations should also be online and they are not ready to give offline examinations currently. Students from Engineering College and Cluster University, Jammu are also protesting over their demand for online examinations.

After the opening of educational institutions in Jammu and Kashmir, universities and colleges have now started issuing date sheets for conducting offline examinations. After colleges and universities have opened, studies have not started yet in a regular way.

Hostels of the Jammu University are scheduled to start from February 4. In the initial stage, hostels will only be opened for PhD scholars. All the students will have to follow the guidelines for the prevention of spread of coronavirus. Hostels will be opened in a phased manner. After PhD students, hostels will accommodate masters students.
