Supreme Court refused to intervene in the Shaheen Bagh demolition drive undertaken in New Delhi today.

The SC told affected persons to approach the Delhi High court. It also questioned why a political party CPIM approached the court and not the residents affected areas.

“We have never given the right to anyone to come here and say my house is being demolished even if it is an illegal construction. Everything has to be as per Law. We don’t want petitions on behest of political parties,” the court said.

Shaheen Bagh that has remained a hotspot for the anti CAA protests in the country witnessed demolition drive by Municipal Corporation o Delhi. Illegal structures that had encroached upon the roads were supposed to be demolished but the locals protested.

Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was deployed at Shaheen Bagh to diffuse any tensions that may have erupted due to the demolition drive.
