Anees-ul-Islam, the grandson of pro-Pakistan Kashmir separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has been dismissed from service in the Jammu and Kashmir administration for allegedly aiding terrorist activities in UT.

Anees, who is the son of Altaf Ahmed Shah alias Altaf Fantoosh, was working as a research officer at a government-owned convention centre in J&K.

He is the son of Altaf Ahmad Shah, a Hurriyat leader and has been lodged in jail since then. The J&K administration on Saturday issued an order after a high-level meeting, people aware of the matter said. The termination order was issued by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha under Article 311.Geelani, a pro-Pakistan supporter who spearheaded the separatist movement in J&K for over three decades, died in September this year.

According to officials, just a few months before his appointment, Anees had gone to Pakistan during July 31-August 7, 2016 and allegedly met Colonel Yasir of the ISI at Geelani’s behest.

It is alleged that after his return, there was pressure on the then state government to appoint Anees for which all recruitment rules were allegedly manipulated. He was allegedly given the job as a deal to curb violence in the state following the killing of Burhan Wani, the poster boy of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen.
