Why has ED arrested Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut?

Last Updated on August 1, 2022 at 10:17 am

Sanjay Raut was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) late on Sunday night for alleged “non-cooperation”. His brother asserted that the detention of the Shiv Sena MP was an attempt by the BJP to stifle his criticism because the BJP is “afraid” of him. He further said that the cash found by ED from Raut’s home was utilised for the Ayodhya tour.

After being detained, his brother Sunil Raut spoke to the media and stated that Sanjay Raut has been falsely accused and the allegations against him are not true. He said that the terrified BJP is afraid of him but Sanjay Raut won’t bow. He’ll stand for the Shiv Sena till the very end.

He announced that he will be brought for a medical examination tomorrow at 9.30 a.m. and will appear in court at 11.30 a.m. He said that they framed false charges against him in order to silence him. The money confiscated by the ED belonged to the party. The funds are left over from the Ayodhya tour, in which Eknath Shinde was also involved. It is the remaining balance of the tour.

The Enforcement Directorate detained Sanjay Raut in connection with a money laundering investigation into suspected irregularities in the redevelopment of a Mumbai chawl and transactions involving his wife and “associates”.

Sanjay Raut, a Shiv Sena MP, was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and subjected to a nine-hour search as part of the investigation on Sunday before being taken to the agency’s office in south Mumbai in the evening.
