A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was killed by terrorists outside his accommodation in Tral in Kashmir.

The BJP leader has been identified as Rakesh Pandita who had been provided security by the government.

However, he was not assisted by his security guards at the time when terrorists killed him. He had gone to meet a friend in Tral area of Pulwama district.

J&K police in a statement said, “terrorists shot dead one councillor namely Rakesh Pandita in Tral. Despite provided 2 PSOs and secured hotel accommodation in Srinagar, the said councillor went to Tral without PSOs. Area cordoned off and search is going on”.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti tweeted: “Shocked to hear that BJP leader Rakesh Pandit has been shot dead by militants. These senseless acts of violence have brought only misery to J&K. My condolences to the family & may his soul rest in peace.”
