Encounters in Kashmir: Infiltration of ultras increases as snow melts

Last Updated on August 6, 2020 at 1:28 am

The sudden rise in encounters in Kashmir and elimination of top leaders of the Pakistan backed terror organization is a clear indication that infiltration from across the border has risen with melting snow on higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.

Infiltration literally comes to a standstill when the high peaks of mountains along Line of Control (LoC) in J&K are covered with snow. Although attempts are made even during that time by the terrorists to enter into the Indian side but those are either retaliated by the Indian army or simply fail due to heightened vigil on the borders.

Most of the infiltration attempts are made from the Pir Panjal mountain range where make-shift bunkers used by the ultras are found from time to time by the security forces.

Meanwhile during the recent past time many encounters have taken place in Kashmir region in which at least 10 terrorists were eliminated by the security forces.

Lower Munda Kulgam encounter

On Monday, security forces engaged at least four ultras in Lower Munda village of Qazigund of Kulgam district and killed them after a brief gunfight. The ultras were firing on the army from a house where they were hiding.

A joint team of 19 RR and police launched an operation against the terrorists when they received specific information about them. As per reports top terrorist commander Abu Anas from Kakapura of Pulwama was also killed in the gunfight.

Asthal Kulgam encounter
