Within two days when the central government brought a new domicile law for Jammu Kashmirreserving only level-4 category government jobs for the domicile of the state, the government brought in a new notification late on Friday evening.

As per the new notification all posts in the Union Territory are now reserved for the domicile.

The central government had to face a backlash when it brought an amendment “the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Adaptation of State Laws) Second Order, 2020” and stated that only level-4 or the lowest rung in the government jobs were reserved for the domiciles of Jammu and Kashmir.

The central government also defined in the notification as to who will be the domicile as per new rules. What infuriated the people regarding the new domicile law for Jammu and Kashmir was that they could now have reservation for only the level-4 government jobs.

Jammu unit of BJP came under a heavy attack by the residents of the region for failing in putting forward the sentiments of people of Jammu in front of the central leadership. It is learnt that the local leaders conveyed the sentiments of Jammu to the central leadership after which the decision to reverse the earlier order was made in haste on late evening of Friday.

National Conference, Congress and even Panthers Party had open a front against the BJP for bringing in a ‘discriminatory law’ for the people of the Union territory.

Even the local BJP leaders in closed door meetings had stated that they were not expecting that such a new domicile law for J&K would be introduced where jobs would be open for even ‘outsiders’.

However the amendment in the law is expected to subside the boiling sentiments of the people of the UT amidst the rising cases of Coronavirus that the authorities are struggling to handle.
