J&K administration gears up to fill over 20,000 vacancies across departments

The Jammu & Kashmir government is geared up to fill over twenty thousand posts in this current year. A report states that the administration has marked 22,379 posts in various departments for filling up them immediately.

Report notes that the government established an Accelerated Recruitment Committee (ARC) to mark vacancies in various departments for which employees can be hired immediately. This committee will supervise the recruitment and act as a single nodal point for the whole process. In phase-I, the committee found 10,000 class-IV vacancies in various government departments. 8,575 of these vacancies have been advertised by the Board under provisions of Jammu and Kashmir, Appointment to Class-IV (Special Recruitment) Rules 2020.

The committee found 12,379 gazetted and non-gazetted vacancies including 533 gazetted and 11,846 non-gazetted vacancies under phase-II of accelerated recruitments drive. Out of these total posts, 383 gazetted and 7,433 non-gazetted vacancies are already being advertised.

As the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir was announced to be bifurcated on 5 August 2019, recruitment process for government jobs was widely affected. To overcome this problem, government constituted a panel in May last year for accelerating recruitment process. The general administration department (GAD) set up the panel to look out for vacancies in various government departments and for supervising the recruitment process.

The Union Home Ministry told parliamentary panel on 18 February 2020 that the J&K administration has marked about 84,000 government posts which are vacant and needs to be filled up. Ministry mentioned that out of these total job vacancies, 76,453 vacancies are of non-gazetted and Class IV level while 7552 are gazetted posts.

Earlier on 28 August 2019 J&K’s last Governor Satya Pal Malik announced that the administration will provide jobs to 50,000 people in various government departments.
