A CRPF jawan, Kabir Dass of the 121 Battalion has been killed in the ongoing encounter with terrorists in the Saida Sukhal village in the Kathua district, while five soldiers of the Indian Army’s 4 RR and a SPO were injured in a separate terrorist attack in the Doda district in the mid-night.
The CRPF jawan was critically injured during the encounter with terrorists and later succumbed in the hospital.
One civilian, Onkar (45) received bullet injuries, including one on his left arm, and was rushed to the medical college hospital at Kathua for treatment.
Two senior officers of J&K Police, DIG JSK Range and SSP Kathua, had a narrow escape after their vehicles came under firing by the terrorists. About a dozen bullets were fired at their vehicles that pierced through the windscreen.
A joint check post at Chattergalla on the Bhaderwah-Chamba road in Doda district was attacked by terrorists injuring 5 jawans of the 4 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and a special police officer (SPO) of J&K Police.
The Kashmir Tigers terrorist outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack in Doda.
Police said that the group of terrorists forcibly entered a house in the Saida Sukhal village and asked for drinking water that was not given by the inmates. The terrorists fled towards a forest and fired in the air.
Villagers noticed their suspicious movement at about 7.45 pm. Thereafter, the area was cordoned by the Army, CRPF and J&K Police and the encounter broke out.
Police said that the dead terrorist had Rs 1 lakh in Indian currency in his bag. Besides, the items recovered from the slain terrorist included three magazines containing 30 rounds, one magazine having 24 rounds, 75 rounds in a separate polythene bag, three live grenades, eatables, Pakistan-made chocolates, dry chana and stale rotis, medicines and injections, painkillers, one syringe, two packs of A4 batteries, one handset wrapped in tape having antenna and two wires hanging from this handset.
