Ammonium Nitrate becoming new danger; Used in Udhampur blasts

Udhampur police interrogated seven suspects in connection with the twin blasts that took place in Udhampur in eight hours on September 28 and September 29.

The forensic investigation reveals that ammonium nitrate was used in the explosions that took place two buses in Udhampur. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been aiding the State Investigation Agency (SIA) and the J&K police as they investigate the matter. Even the Army intelligence is making efforts to compile details about the perpetrators.

Two blasts in the area triggered panic in the area. An explosion took place in a passenger bus in Udhampur town on Wednesday night and a similar explosion was reported in another bus on Thursday morning.

As per The Tribune, blasts appeared to be the handiwork of a terror group linked to Lashkar-e-Toiba as a similar blast in March at Slathia Chowk of Udhampur was linked to the same outfit. Ammonium nitrate was used in that blast as well, killing a person and injuring 15 others.

An official of military intelligence said that intelligence network has been activated in far-off areas of Reasi, Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar district where terror activities have increased during recent times.

Sources in intelligence said the blasts appeared to be the handiwork of a terror group linked to Lashkar-e-Toiba as a similar blast in March at Slathia Chowk of Udhampur was linked to the same outfit. Sources said ammonium nitrate was used in that blast as well, killing a person and injuring 15 others
