Army helps to set up school with modern facilities in J&K’s Poonch

In the Mendhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, a government school has been undergone a major changes and development with the help of local army unit.

The government school has nearly 200 students enrolled and is just three kilometers from the Line of Control (LoC). The local army unit helped in making various developments for the school. Army unit came forward to help the students achieve their goals.

Jammu-based Army PRO Lt Col Devender Anand said that endeavour of Mendhar Gunners under the aegis of White Knight Corps has been to bring the school at par to national standards despite the school being on the LoC and amid the Covid-19 restrictions.

Lt Col Anand said that Mendhar Gunners, the local Army unit on regular interaction with the locals found the issue and helped them out.

He further said that government High School, Dharana is situated far from city side which will help children absorb knowledge easily. “The students from this school generally come from impecunious families whose primary occupation is daily labour, which had wide implications on the students like lack of exposure to the modern outside world”, the officer said.

The Army officer said that Mendhar Gunners stepped forward for beautification of the school by painting the walls with educative paintings and symbols of national pride. He further informed that many types of sports equipments have been made available for students.

He said that the Army has helped school to procure the modern facilities which only city schools have. Lt Col Anand said that Mendhar Gunners conducted various sports competitions for Kho-Kho, Badminton and Volleyball.

A student of class nine said that they have all the facilities available at school such as library, playground and many others which are in all city schools.

School is located at a very calm and spacious place and has a lot of greenery all around. Students can also take short treks in the orchards around the campus.
