Army pays tribute to the fallen hero of Shopian encounter in Kashmir

Army today, paid tribute to Havildar Pinku Kumar, who died while fighting valiantly against ultras on March 27 in Shopian of Kashmir.

The fallen hero was paid tribute in form of a solemn ceremony at BB cantonment. Lt Gen DP Pandey, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks paid homage to the gallant soldier on behalf of the proud Nation.          

Late Havildar Pinku Kumar was part of an Operation WANGAM. At around 7 pm, a cordon and search operation was launched in the village and at around 08:15 pm, the terrorists fired indiscriminately on the search party.

“Kumar showed highest level of courage and valour by returning effective fire, in which he sustained a gunshot wound in head and was grievously injured. His bleeding was controlled with combat first aid and he was immediately evacuated to 92 Base Hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries” said an official statement by army.

Kumar, was 38 years old and had joined the Army in 2001. He belonged to Village Luhari of Barout Tehsil, Bagpat District in Uttar Pradesh and is survived by his wife, two daughters and one son.

The official statement further read, “the mortal remains of Havildar Pinku Kumar were taken for last rites to his native place, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours. In this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and remains committed to their dignity and well being”.
