A major scam of may be of crores of rupees has come into notice of Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) about officers of JK Employees Provident Fund Organization (JKEPFO), reportedly. It has been pointed out that officers/officials have opened fake accounts of workers who have shifted to other States/Union Territories during Covid-19 pandemic last year and withdrew amount deposited in their names by various establishments.

After the Covid-19 cases started to fall, workers who returned to Jammu and Kashmir inquired about their account but were left shocked after knowing that either their accounts have been closed or there was no amount left in them.

Workers then knocked the doors of CBI and which initiated the investigation into the matter. After substantiating claims made by the workers, the CBI conducted raids at the JKEPFO office.

As per reports, during raids, records related to withdrawal of amount of several workers since past two years has been seized to inspect for finding out the details about withdrawal of amount of workers in their absence. But till now the exact number of workers who have lost their amount through false practices by the JKEPFO officials is not known.

The JKEPFO officers will be called for investigation in relation to the case but exact amount involved in the case is not yet known but is huge reportedly.

The CBI suspects that some officers/officials of the JKEPFO appeared to have opened fake accounts of the employees and withdrew their amount but everything will be cleared after proper investigation.

Harinder Singh, Regional PF Commissioner-II EPFO Regional Office Jammu said that office of EPFO RO Jammu working under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, government of India and JKEPFO working under J&K administration are located in the same building. He said that no raid was done in the Regional office of EPFO and added that EPFO is committed towards social security of subscribers and providing service delivery to all stakeholders/members in a transparent online IT enabled service.
