Community transmission of Coronavirus has started in India: IMA

As the total number of cases of Covid-19 has crossed 10.38 lakh in the country, the Indian Medical Association has said that the community transmission of Coronavirus has started in India.

The latest news on Coronavirus in India is that the community transmission has come at such a time when a large number of people were already suffering from Coronavirus. This would further weaken the situation of the country that was standing only behind United States and Brazil in number of Covid-19 patients.

The community spread of Coronavirus can cause further trouble for the government that was already facing the shortage of essential infrastructure to deal with the infection  that has engulfed every Indian state.

ANI news agency has quoted Dr VK Monga who is the Chairperson of IMA Hospital Board of India in which he said that the growth is exponential.

Monga is quoted saying that the number of cases of the infection is increasing by nearly 30,000 everyday. He said that the infection is also spreading to the rural areas of the country.

While the government is still saying that the community transmission of Coronavirus has so far not started in India, the IMA is quoted as saying otherwise. As per the official figures by Union Health Ministry 1038716 people have so far been tested positive for Covid-19 and out of these 653751 have recovered. There have been 26273 deaths from Covid-19 in India.

Coronavirus cases were earlier confined to urban areas of the country only but have now been trickling down to the villages that is a dangerous scenario. This has raised many eyebrows as the government was till recently claiming that there was no community transmission of Coronavirus in India. Even in Delhi there have been thousands of cases of the infection.
