Domestic helpers provided by the private placement agencies across Kashmir have created a major concern for the region.
Kashmir has witnessed a massive growth in these placement agencies but there has been no guidelines fixed for the regulations of their functioning. Moreover, government doesnot have any details about the number of placement agencies running in Kashmir who provide with domestic help for the households.
These agencies without any regulations of the government dupe the consumers who hire these domestic helpers as well as these agencies mistreat the helpers.
This issue hogged the headlines when a domestic helper murdered a lady house hold in Lal Bazar area of Srinagar recently. The accused was later arrested by J&K Police on his way from Srinagar to Jammu. After the issue gathered limelight, eyebrows have been raised over the regulation of the private placement agencies and the verification of the domestic helpers provided by these companies.
The consumers have complained about these agencies that they do not work properly and provide with the helpers randomly from outside without any verification.
Also, complaints have been done against these placement agencies for not treating the domestic help properly at their centers.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole told Greater Kashmir that private placement agencies are registered by the Labor Department and there is no need to have a separate department to deal with any sort of cheating done by these agencies.
