CS directs promotion of new tourism destinations in J&K

Various activities are going to be put up by the Jammu and Kashmir tourism department which consists of promoting and highlighting destination festivals and organizing dedicated trekking-expeditions.

A meeting was chaired by the Chief Secretary, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta for viewing the various activities which have been undertaken by the tourism department to attract tourists.

The Administrative Secretary, Tourism department along with MD, JKTDC, and concerned officers of the department participated in the meeting.

As per reports, various events are being planned by the tourism department for attracting tourists both local and foreign. Many road shows have been organized in major cities for promoting tourism related events in J&K.

Also, as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the department will set up an iconic week celebration in the last week of October 2021, which will include performances on Hafiz Nagma, Kalam-e-Khusroo, Kalam-e-Baba Fareed, Qawwali, Baul Sufi folk, Darrvish Sufi dance, and Haziri Kathak, besides literary seminar on Sufism and exhibition of local arts, calligraphy, and Sufi traditions.

For promotion of Kashmir-based destinations autumn and Houseboat festivals; Saffron Festival; Christmas and New Year festivals; and Winter Carnival will be organized.

In order to promote rural tourism, it was informed that specific activities will be organized along the identified rural circuits across J&K.

The chief secretary have asked the tourism department to promote 75 new tourist places by making comprehensive facilities in an integrated manner having adequate provisions of recreational activities, eateries, and restrooms.
