The government has asked the delimitation commission to stick to March, 2022 as deadline of submitting report.

Delimitation Commission which is involved in delimitation of 90 Assembly constituencies for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has to submit report till March 6, 2022 and no further extension will be given.

The Panel is headed by Justice (Retired) Ranjana Prakash Desai is already on a one-year extension. Elections are expected in J&K after delimitation is done.

Thus, as per reports, if the Commission does not miss the deadline then this will clear the decks for conducting assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

During its visit to J&K from July 6-9, the commission had said that it will visit the Union Territory once again. Also, before finalization of draft report, the commission had to meet Associate Members once again to share report with them before putting it in public domain for inviting claims and objections.
