Demand for statehood for Ladakh to grow louder from June

Ladakh is likely to witness hot political summer in coming days since the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) announced an agitation from June 1.

Ladakh is preparing up for agitation in support of their demands for Statehood and Constitutional safeguards and few others if their matter is not addressed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs till then.

As per reports, there has been no invite from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs since a long time for talks on the demands flagged by them.

As per reports, LAB leaders, KDA leadership and the two organizations have agreed to meet next week to work out schedule of agitation. Agitational programme will have massive protests followed by bandh and some other forms of protest. Currently, both the organizations are engaged in mobilizing people at block level for the proposed agitation. They have been regularly holding programmes at blocks in support of their issues.

It is pertinent to mention that LAB and KDA are demanding statehood with legislature, constitutional safeguards under the 6th Schedule to protect jobs and land, separate Lok Sabha seats for Kargil and Leh districts, a Rajya Sabha seat for the region and filling of vacant posts by recruiting locals.
