Many Diagnostic lab owners in Kashmir are having a fear of their labs to get closed as every lab needs to have an MBBS doctor.

In the latest rule which has been made applicable in Jammu and Kashmir that every diagnostic laboratory is required to have at least an MBBS doctor on board to sign the reports.

After the applicability of Clinical Establishments Rule Amendment 2020 in J&K, every diagnostic laboratory is required to have at least an MBBS doctor on board to sign the reports.

Various labs in villages, towns and various cities have failed to have required doctor which run on small scales.

One of the lab owner told Greater Kashmir that they have been running these labs for past many years and it is very difficult to accept the major change. Further he said that tests they run are basic and they are qualified enough to carry out tests that do require interpretation and added that even for tests such as Blood Glucose, Hemoglobin, PH Value of Urine and the level of Electrolytes they have to wait for doctor.

The Kashmir Private Diagnostic Centres Association (KPDCA) said that there are many states where basic laboratories are not dependent on MBBS doctor for basic tests.  He said that the Laboratories have been divided into categories and those, categorized as basic composite, and the reports containing only numerical value are exempted. “We request the same norms be applied to us,” he said.
