First national level cricketer from Ladakh wants to set up academy in UT

Councilor, LAHDC Leh, Thinles Nurboo along with Cricketer Skalzang Dorjey called on Lt. Governor RK Mathur today.

Skalzang, is a national level cricket player from Tukla, Ladakh who has represented Ladakh at various tournaments. He apprised the LG of the need to set up a Cricket Academy in Leh and sought administrative support in getting the required infrastructure in place.

He requested for allotment of land for the academy at the Stok Thang and expressed his eagerness to coach the cricket aspirants of Ladakh. He added that the lack of an academy and professional training is an impediment in refining the cricketing talent in Ladakh.

Councilor, Thinles Nurboo apprised LG Mathur of how Skalzang has inspired and encouraged the youth, especially in Changthang region to try their hands, not just in Cricket but in Football and other sports. He requested the Hon’ble LG to instruct the concerned department to assess feasibility of the Cricket Academy project.

LG Mathur conveyed his appreciation for Skalzang’s talent in the field of cricket and stated that his achievement will encourage young aspiring talents to excel in this field. He appreciated the endeavor and suggested them to come up with a way forward for establishing a self-sustained Cricket Academy keeping in view its future viability.
