Fresh snowfall attracts major tourist footfall in Kashmir

Since the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, tourist footfall in Jammu and Kashmir has been very low but after the Covid-19 restrictions have been eased, large number of people has started visiting the valley.

In last month, more than one lakh tourists visited Kashmir Valley which has broken a record of seven years.

Gulmarg witnessed the heavy snowfall making the view breathtaking and thousands of tourists thronged Ski resort Gulmarg to enjoy the fresh snowfall. Moreover, tourist footfall is likely to increase in coming weeks.

The highest and longest ropeway in Asia, the Gondola ride in Gulmarg is one of the major tourist attraction spot. The Gondola starts from the Gulmarg and at a height of 13,000ft above sea level to the mountains of Apharwat.  According to the officials, In the last three months, around 2,000 to 3,000 people have taken this ropeway every day.   

Shivani Chadha, a tourist said that view is beautiful and is mesmerizing to the eyes. She further added that she would like to visit this place again and again.

Chadha further added that they are vaccinated and didn’t find much hassle with regard to that.

Another tourist, Ashwini said that one should keep making trips here during winters as well as summers to experience the greenery and snow and said that everyone should visit the place to enjoy the snow.

Showkat Ahmad, in-charge, Gondola said that a lot of tourists were seen in past few days and since the past three months, they are seeing 2,000-3,000 people avail Gondola facilities every day. “The bookings which we are looking at are very good and we expect a huge rush in the coming winter,” said Showkat Ahmad, in-charge, Gondola.   

Moreover, most of the hotels in Gulmarg have been booked for the Christmas and New Year.
