Government orders shifting of over 500 computers from Jammu to Srinagar secretariat

The Jammu and Kashmir government ordered to relocate 500 surplus computers as well as printers to Civil Secretariat Srinagar from Jammu.

Stating an official communication of GAD official said that, out of 551 surplus computers, 500 shall be relocated to Civil Secretariat Srinagar from Civil Secretariat Jammu. Computers by administrative departments were duly packed with a receipt and sent to designated Nodal officer, Deputy Secretary, GAD, Dr Mohammed Usman Khan at the Civil  Secretariat Jammu for safer transportation to Srinagar and installation will be done on June 5, 2021.

The General Administration Department (GAD) had requested general manager JKSRTC for the arrangement of sufficient buses at Civil Secretariat Jammu for transportation of computers and printers to Srinagar.

Recent meeting was held with administrative secretaries where administrative departments were instructed to procure wireless dongle adopters as per need so that old OCs can be made compatible and 2 high speed scanners through GEM portal by June 5.

Officials said that most of the computers have been outdated having windows 5 and windows 7 which hinders implementing e-office which requires windows 10.

Even though old computers are updated they may comfortably move to e-office.

As per reports, a team of nine IT professionals will be provided each at Jammu and Srinagar Secretariat for all the technical support needed for implementing e-office by the Informative Technology Department. Four officers shall be nominated by administrative departments who will get trained by the IT department as master trainers for  their respective departments for proper working of e-office. As well  as leave, the application module of e-office shall be immediately activated in e-mode as per decision taken in a meeting chaired by Chief Secretariat, J&K.

Each section officer will push 10 files to check the overall working system on June 7,8,9. Related to attendance, an official said that a software will be developed by the IT department to furnish login details of the employees on a daily basis till the bio-metric attendance starts in Secretariat.
