To keep a check on corrupt practices in Jammu and Kashmir government made various claims to fight against the deep-rooted corruption. Government and its anti-graft bodies, years ago decided to install CCTV cameras in the offices where there is a greater public dealing.

Installation of CCTV cameras will put a full stop to the corrupt practices going on and will ensure transparency and accountability.

This process must have been done much before but the successive regimes in the state remained non-serious and the project kept on dragging. An official said that it is a pity that years ago such an important project was discussed and till date nothing has been done. Further he added that why the government is not speeding up the process when it is claiming to fight against the corrupt practices? Also he added that back then, it was decided that soon after the project gets the green signal, then the monitoring would be done in the DC offices wherein a special team during the office hours would be deployed.

The government so far has failed to monitor how public servants discharge their duties and spend their official time. The CCTV cameras will definitely help in catching a person red handed whosoever will be involved in corrupt practices.

Officials said “It has also been discussed that the footage captured by the CCTV cameras can be preserved so that if any person seeks it under the RTI, the same could be provided.”

It is the political will that can turn the tide against corruption thus this initiative should be implemented sooner. Also if the corrupt practices are eradicated it will provide general public a sigh of relief as well.
