Jammu and Kashmir to get seven more assembly constituencies

The Delimitation Commission held a press conference on its visit to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The Delimitation Commission informed that 7 more assembly seats will be added in J&K. This will bring the J&K assembly to 90 segments.

Delimitation will be done on the basis of 2011 Census and final draft on delimitation will be made after looking at every considerations.

Addressing a press conference in Jammu, Sushil Chandra, who is also an Ex-officio member of J&K Delimitation Commission said, “We had meetings in Srinagar, we had meetings in Pahalgam, we had meetings in Kishtwar and Jammu. We heard people up to 10:30 p.m. because of the overwhelming response from the people.”

The Delimitation Commission headed by Justice (Retired) Ranjana Prakash Desai has ruled out de-freezing one-third of 24 seats reserved for Pakistan occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK) for displaced persons of PoJK settled in India. Though plea by organizations of Pakistan occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK) refugees, BJP and few other bodies for the same have been done repeatedly.

The Delimitation Commission today assured that the commission will act in a fair and transparent manner. The delimitation commission is on a four-day visit from July 6 to July 9 to meet government officials in J&K.
