J&K likely to receive widespread snowfall, rains from December 5 to 7

The Meteorological Department on Monday forecast widespread light to moderate snowfall and rains in Jammu and Kashmir from December 5 to December 7.

A meteorological department official said that told that a western disturbance is most likely to hit J&K.

Moreover it was further informed that due to snow and freezing temperatures there is the possibility of temporary disruption of traffic overpasses like Zojila, Sinthan Top, Razdan Top, Mugal Road.

Official further informed that at some places on higher reaches (above 2000m) may receive heavy snow (1-2feet) whereas plains likely to receive 2-3 inches of snow.

Winter conditions have intensified in Kashmir and Ladakh with as Srinagar, recorded minus 1.1°C against previous night minus 0.2°C.

Qazigund recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.0°C against minus 1.3°C on the previous night, he said. It was minus 1.0°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir for this time of the year, the official said. Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 3.4°C against minus 3.0°C on previous night. Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 0.5°C against minus 0.2°C on previous night and normal of 0.4°C, the official said. Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 1.6°C against minus 1.4°C on the previous night, the official said.
