Kashmiri woman ends her life after alleged harassment from in-laws

After a Kashmiri woman suicided on Saturday, her family members allegedly set her in-laws’ house on fire. The woman who ended her own life belonged to Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Her family members are alleging that her husband used to harass her and that’s why she was propelled to take this unfortunate step.

The police registered two FIRs in this case. One FIR was lodged against her husband for abetment to suicide and domestic violence whereas the other one was filed against her family members for arson.

The deceased woman’s husband was arrested by Police while her brother was detained. Police is trying to find others who were involved in torching the house. Station house officer (SHO) Aijaz Ahmad said that he was told decedent was married for seven years and her husband did not use to take care of her.

Imtiyaz Hussain Mir, Anantnag senior superintendent of police said that her body was found on Saturday morning. As body of deceased was taken out from her in-laws’ home, there are allegations that her family members gathered at the spot and set their house on fire. Mir said that they have registered two FIRs and each of them will be proceeded according to the law.

A couple of days earlier, a woman named Kapila Mali lost her life in an alleged case of suicide because she was harassed for not being able to produce a male child in accordance with family demands. As a result of consistent harassment, she decided to end her life in Padra area of Vadodara, Gujarat. Her body was found in a canal from Sangma village. She had two daughters.
