Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s advisor Farooq Khan stepped down from his post and submitted his resignation to Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
As per reports, he is likely to be assigned the responsibility of preparing a party for the assembly elections as the development comes after two-day visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Jammu.
Till now there is no confirmation on when the polls will be held in J&K but it is expected that the elections will be held after October following completion of the ongoing delimitation exercise by May.
Khan told Greater Kashmir that there is no political assignment as on date but have just put in his papers requesting them that he would like to work in the political field now.
Khan, a retired IPS officer was crucial in curbing terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir in the 1990s. Earlier, Khan had served as a national secretary of the BJP and held various posts in the party’s minority cell.
Khan as the advisor to LG was holding the portfolios of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Social Welfare, Tribal Affairs, Labour and Employment, Youth Services and Sports, ARI and Trainings, Cooperative, Election, Haj & Auqaf, Agriculture Production & Farmers’ welfare and Horticulture.
