J&K administration has initiated an investigation on the retired officials of Kashmir valley who allegedly possess property worth crores which couldn’t be bought from their “official” sources of income.

Sources said that this investigation is being conducted by various agencies including the Anti-Corruption Bureau. Agencies are probing assets of former bureaucrats who have amassed “luxurious properties”. Wealth of many former officials was scrutinized in the first phase. One of them has possession of over hundreds of kanals of land including in Dachigam locality and he has bought property even outside Kashmir.

When government agencies further investigated then they found that the said former official claims ownership over three bungalows in Srinagar. Sources said that it is nearly impossible to amass this huge amount of property without resorting to unauthorized means.

Sources said that these raids have become a major cause of concern among many former officers in Kashmir who possess huge assets.

Sources said that many of these officials were posted as commission agents of the dynasts. These dynasts would give a share of their unethical earnings to corrupt officials in that administration for keeping quiet. An official said that these corrupt former officers must be exposed and their property details should be made public.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has often sworn by his mantra of zero tolerance to corruption. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is also working hard in order to bring transparency in government affairs.

Sources informed that government authorities can carry out more raids in future as the UT administration wants to punish corrupt officials and set an example for present and future government employees.
