685 candidates had qualified the examination. Among those from Jammu and Kashmir, all eight are from Jammu division while two are from Ladakh, reportedly. But, none from Kashmir valley has made it to the examination.

J&K saw 11 candidates qualifying in the UPSC examination in 2011, 10 in 2012, 11 in 2013, 10 in 2014, nine in 2015, 14 in 2016, 14 in 2017, and 15 in 2018. Only nine candidates qualified from J&K after the scrapping of article 370 in 2020.

It is pertinent to mention that the civil services examination is conducted annually by the UPSC in three stages preliminary, main and interview to select officers of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS) among others.
