PHE land donors running from pillar to post to get compensation, government jobs in J&K

Land donors to Jal shakti department (erstwhile PHE) in Jammu and Kashmir are running from pillar to post to get their issues and demand settle. Landowners donated their valuable land to the department for setting up various water schemes in Kashmir. In return donors were promised government jobs and compensation. Donors claimed that department took land in between the years from 1995 to 2021.

But to an utter shock, the promises made haven’t been fulfilled, allegedly. A resident of Khansahab’s Tragekhal area in central Kashmir’s Budgam district said that neither they have land nor received any compensation or got jobs. He said that he donated land many years ago but never received any compensation for the same as department never accepted his request.

The landowners said that the department informed them in 2017 that those who donated less than one kanal of land would be compensated, while those who donated more than one kanal would be given jobs. ”So far, no jobs or compensation have been provided,” Javeed Ahmad, a land donor said.

The landowners said that they flagged the issue to government many times in Jammu and Kashmir over the years but their issues were not solved.

Chief Engineer Jal Shakti Department, Iftikhar Ahmad told Excelsior that the cases had been forwarded to the government and are awaiting a response.
