Power outage in Jammu; Good governance turns into mockery

Last Updated on December 18, 2021 at 9:34 pm

The idea of good governance in J&K turned into a mockery as several areas in Jammu witnessed power outage on Saturday with no official or employee of power department present to listen to the grievances of common people.

As nearly 20,000 employees and engineers of the Power Development Department (PDD) went on an indefinite strike in the UT, the residents faced the brunt with no electricity in most of the areas of Jammu.

Areas like Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Janipur, Canal Road among many others faced electricity cuts and also single phase of power not allowing most of the electric appliances to work. During the severe chill in Jammu, water and room heaters did not work in absence of power that further aggravated the problems of people especially children.

Mohinder Singh, a resident of Gandhi Nagar said that there was a power cut at around 6 pm on Saturday after which single phase electricity was restored. He said that when he called at the phone number of power department to register a complaint, noone answered due to strike call by employees of PDD.

While Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has made promises of 24×7 electricity in Jammu and Kashmir, residents say unscheduled power cuts make things clear about government’s intentions.
