School in Reasi named after martyr SPO of J&K police Abdul Rashid

In order to honour Special Police Officer (SPO) Abdul Rashid who attained martyrdom while fighting terrorists, Government Primary School Lower Mendi in Reasi was on Tuesday named after him.

In a ceremony, Shailender Singh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi visited remote hill top village Mendi and dedicated the school in the name of the Martyr. Shailender Singh also instituted a photograph of martyr Abdul Rashid in the School.

SPO Abdul Rashid was born to late Abdul Rehman and Fatima Begum in far flung village Mendi of Chassana area on 02-03-1979. He  got his primary education from Government Primary School lower Mendi Chassana and Govt High school Balmatkote.

He joined J&K Police during a period of peak terrorism in Mahore-Chassana area on 05-04-2001. He attained Martyrdom while fighting against Anti national terrorists in an encounter in Channakote Mahore on 27-12-2001 while eliminating the  two dreaded ultras.

Fatima Begum mother of the martyr also  joined on the occasion despite her old age and weakness and blessed the officers with her prayers for this initiative while remembering the Martyr with wet eyes.

Speaking on the occasion SSP conveyed that SPO Abdul Rashid was very helpful and popular among his colleagues. “He was very courageous and brave policeman who volunteered himself to be the part of search party on that day and laid down his life for the nation” the SSP said.
