Unscheduled power cuts have given rise to immense difficulties for the people of Srinagar with the onset of winters.

Residents of different areas said that for the past weeks, the power supply is snapped for two to three hours during a day. The irregular power supply has led to outrage in these affected areas, with consumers asking authorities to issue power curtailment schedule in force, if any.

Residents of Syed Abad Soiteng said that they have to face immense hardships with long power cuts during day. A local resident Ghulam Hassan Bhat said that supply mostly remains affected during the day which has become a norm for past one month now.

Moreover, locals alleged that they don’t receive any satisfactory answers when they approach local grid station of Power Development Department (PDD) to know reason of power curtailment.

Locals in Padshahibagh said that PDD authorities in their area have broken all previous records of power cuts on onset of winters this year. They complained that they are first time experiencing such a worst power supply on the onset of winter.

Complaints of unscheduled power cuts were received from various Downtown areas including Bagh-Ali-Mardan, Almagari Bazar and Hawal, Bemina, Habba Kadal, Dargah Hazratbal and its adjacent areas.

Meanwhile, an official from PDD said that the department was likely to issue a fresh curtailment schedule for metered and non-metered areas shortly.
