Since the government has decided for the drone based vaccine delivery, a trial run of drone based vaccine delivery was held in Jammu. In order to transport the Covid-19 vaccines in hilly areas and remote areas of the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, drones will be used.

As per reports, drones will have capability of covering a distance of 20 kilometres and will fly at a height of 500 meters. They will carry a load of 10 kilograms which is being said as enough for transporting vaccines to hilly, remote and far off areas in the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

It had come to the fore that in many parts of hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh besides other parts of the country, people were not covering long distance through mountains to get themselves vaccinated. The new technique of transporting vaccines through drones will help the administration to vaccinate people at their door-steps.

In the beginning J&K and Ladakh might get around 30 drones but, if the need arises, the numbers will be increased, reportedly Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare had earlier written to the administration of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh besides other States and Union Territories to increase the testing and ensure the Covid Appropriate Behaviour is being followed.

The vaccination speed has been quite good in J&K as well as Latah as compared to many other States and Union Territories. With the help of drones for vaccination in less covered areas will also be done at faster speed now.
