With social gatherings on, Jammu may witness another wave of pandemic

Since Jammu is expecting marriage season ahead, health department has strictly warned and advised against allowing gatherings in the marriages due to rise in Covid-19 cases.

An official informed that officials from the district administration have been explained about the prevailing situation and the situation which can come in marriage season coming ahead and which will continue till December.

The official said that they have submitted recommendations with the district administration Jammu that the annual “Jhiri Mela” which witnesses a mass gathering be held in a simple way.

Also official informed that it has been recommended that people coming from Punjab should not be allowed to come to participate in Jhiri Mela in Jammu District which is conducted on November 19 and continues for a week.

A senior official of health department further said that it has been suggested that less gathering should be done.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Anshul Garg said “I do not think that Jhiri mela to be organised in view of the pandemic. Therefore, I have directed the revenue department’s team to speak to the organisers of mela. They should organise it locally and outsiders may not be allowed.”

Another official said that seven crowed places have been taken into consideration by the health department in Jammu city. The places are Wave Mall, Big Bazaar, Kanak Mandi, Best Price, WareHouse, Vegetable market (sabzi mandi- Narwal) etc where officials would be deployed to keep a check on the guidelines being followed related to pandemic or not.

Official informed that Naib Tehsildars alongwith health department officials (paramedical staff/doctors) have been suggested for deploying so that people with second doses are permitted entry. “People with single vaccination be identified and vaccinated second dose, accordingly,” the official said while urging the people to follow the Covid-19 protocol.

The health officials warned that if the people do not follow the Covid-19 protocol, the situation may turn adverse and severe in coming weeks amid approaching marriage ceremonies.
