Recently conducted District Development Committee (DDC) elections has brought differences in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in open for selection of a new chairman when some senior party leaders expressed their support to new candidates for heading these posts.

Senior functionaries and Prabharis of the districts opposed these selections on the basis that this will set a bad precedence in the party of sidelining senior activists and they will get totally annoyed.

Sources said that the party Prabharis and incharges of the districts raised their objections when head of the organisation in J&K hinted the names of some new candidates including a relative of a former MLA to hold the posts. They said that it will give a very wrong message to those who have served the party for years.

Sources informed that the in-charge of districts protested and warned against setting such a precedence in the party which boasts of being an organisation with a difference. Some senior leaders of the party had organised the meeting yesterday to discuss potential candidates to head DDCs. However, meeting could not yield any clear result in this regard.

J&K BJP leadership has intended to appoint new candidates as chairman in many districts of Jammu region. The majority of Prabharis, Core Committee members and ex legislators have expressed their opposition for such an approach.

Sources said that few party activists have even accused the party leadership of supporting them who rebelled against the party in these elections. They alleged that senior party leaders avoided those areas in their election campaign trail where these rebels were contesting.

Some party leaders said that such actions of the senior leadership annoyed some leaders and ex legislators. The MLA of Chenani resigned from the party observing such actions which costed the party heavily during elections. In March, the party also gave ticket to a candidate which annoyed leader of that area causing party to lose that seat. Sources said that some Prabharis have demanded the intervention from High Command in the matter.
